Tundra Fun played their first show at Clinton’s Tavern in January of 2008. They have since played throughout Quebec and Ontario; although predominantly in Toronto, at such venues as The Drake Underground, The Cameron House, The Silver Dollar, and the El Mocambo, sharing the stage with International artist’s such as Mugison (IS), Fyfe Dangerfield (UK), and Patrick Watson (CA).
Tundra Fun has just completed recording a self-titled EP and will be releasing that online in the Spring of 2017.
The core rhythm section on the new EP is formed by the trio of Jason Skiendziel on bass, Josh Turnbull on drums, and Jay Richards on guitar. Led by the opening track “Buildings”, their new EP is peppered with the scathing horn section of Alison Young, RJ Satchithananthan, and Stephen Dyte, whom together create a musical bridge between the flare of the big bands of New Orleans, to the sinewy roots of Ska.
This album has vocal support from Shikha Sehgal on the tracks “Hail” and “Out Of Time”, as well as her creating vocal harmonies with Matt Kingsley and Melanie Hilmi on “Buildings”.
Derek Downham plays the grand piano on “Get Spirit” and “Buildings”. Derek also plays Rhodes electric piano and the B3 organ on “Hail”, and B3 organ on “Out Of Time”.
Engineered by Andrew McCready at Keen Music in Toronto, and mastered by Phil Demetro at Lacquer Channel Mastering, this self-titled EP is rich with ethereal overtones while capturing the spontaneity of the live band.
